As May marks National Moving Month, Penske Truck Rental has released its 16th annual Top Moving Destinations list, highlighting the cities that recorded the highest volume of one-way consumer truck rentals in 2025.
Houston claimed the top spot for the fifth consecutive year, followed by Atlanta and San Antonio. Charlotte climbed to No. 4, while Phoenix returned to the rankings for the first time since 2021. Orlando and Tampa also remained in the top 10 alongside four Texas cities. Last year’s rankings can be viewed here.

The annual rankings are based on analysis of one-way consumer truck rental reservations made through Penske’s website, call center and more than 1,880 rental locations across North America.
Alongside this year’s rankings, Penske Truck Rental also released findings from its latest Settling In: A Consumer Moving Trends Survey, which explored the factors influencing relocation decisions today.
Among recent movers, getting a fresh start and finding a lower cost of living ranked among the leading reasons for relocating. Respondents also pointed to career opportunities, being closer to loved ones and having more space as important considerations when choosing where to live.

The survey also found consumers are seeking a balance between convenience and comfort in the places they choose to call home. Respondents expressed interest in access to restaurants, shopping, entertainment and recreational activities, while also valuing quieter communities with a slower pace of life.
Generational differences appeared throughout the findings as well. Younger respondents were more likely to prioritize recreation, social opportunities and active communities, while older generations placed greater emphasis on being closer to family. Across age groups, many consumers aid they want to live somewhere that supports their hobbies and interests.

The survey findings provide additional context around the factors consumers are considering hen deciding where to move, including affordability, recreation, pace of life and access to amenities.
