Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) announced today that Penske Truck Leasing and NFI have agreed to partner in operating the Freightliner Electric Innovation Fleet of eCascadia™ heavy-duty trucks and eM2 106 medium-duty trucks. The move is the next phase of a co-creation process that DTNA is utilizing to actively involve customers in the development of commercial electric vehicles to meet the most valid target applications.

Emerald Brand, a maker of daily use disposable products that are sourced from sustainable and alternative materials, is introducing several Penske Truck Leasing compressed natural gas (CNG) fueled trucks into its fleet. The Syosset, New York-based company will further its conservation mission with the transition.

Penske Truck Leasing is the recipient of four grants totaling $1.1 million from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) through the Texas Emissions Reduction Plan (TERP). It is expected the company will utilize the grants to subsidize the purchase of natural gas Freightliner Cascadia tractors equipped with Cummins Westport 12-liter engines.

Penske Truck Leasing and Penske Logistics were among the companies that celebrated Earth Day and sustainability advancements being made in the transportation sector. The setting in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, was the grand opening of a Trillium CNG fueling station, with Wegmans Food Markets; NFI, a supply chain solutions provider; and Gladstein, Neandross and Associates (GNA), clean transportation and energy consultants.

“Today is an excellent example of how several organizations can work together and create a success story for the transportation industry to transition to alternative fuels,” stated Drew Cullen, Penske senior vice president of fuels and facilities services (pictured speaking below). “We appreciate the opportunity to take a lead role in making this day a reality.”

Once again in 2015, Penske Truck Leasing and Penske Logistics will be highly visible at this year’s Alternative Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo taking place in Dallas, May 4-May 7, at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center.
