United Way Recognizes Penske with Presidential Award

The United Way of Berks County recently presented Penske with a Presidential Award recognizing the company and its associates for achieving top corporate fundraiser status in the 2017 campaign.
<p>Each year, the United Way presents the Presidential Award to the top corporate fundraisers in the non-profit’s annual campaign. Penske has received the award since 1991.</p><p>“Penske is an absolutely amazing organization and even more amazing are the people at Penske,” said Tammy White, president, United Way of Berks County. “Your generosity to our campaign is phenomenal.”</p><p><img class="rm-shortcode" data-rm-shortcode-id="e1dbdc6a7d6449f92bc51688de3b4012" data-rm-shortcode-name="rebelmouse-image" id="b2279" type="lazy-image" data-runner-src="https://assets.rebelmouse.io/eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiIsInR5cCI6IkpXVCJ9.eyJpbWFnZSI6Imh0dHBzOi8vYXNzZXRzLnJibC5tcy8xOTEyODUzNS9vcmlnaW4uanBnIiwiZXhwaXJlc19hdCI6MTYxNjM3NTAzMX0.lqwrTDKGmLX9XXwBAqYJ41HNDfyhX_T_JwHVPaL1ypQ/img.jpg?width=980"/></p><p>White presented the award to Mike Duff, senior vice president of government relations and chief compliance officer for Penske Truck Leasing, and to Penske’s United Way at Work Committee (UWAW), made up of <a href="https://www.penskelogistics.com/" rel="noopener">Penske Logistics</a> and <a href="https://www.pensketruckleasing.com/" rel="noopener">Penske Truck Leasing</a> associates in Reading, Pennsylvania.</p><p>“I am so personally proud of what we were able to do for the community,” Duff said. “Giving back is important to our organization, and I know it is important to UWAW committee members individually.”</p><p>The 2017 United Way campaign raised nearly $10.6 million, which will be invested in over 50 UnitedWay-funded programs, initiatives and grants, serving more than 100,000 people in need throughout Berks County.</p><p>It was the fourth year in a row that Penske was the top corporate fundraiser and the third in which the company and its associates raised more than $1 million.</p><p>The UWAW committee spearheaded United Way fundraising events throughout the year, culminating with the giving campaign in the fall.</p><p>“Penske recognizes being a good corporate citizen means being part of the community, giving time and contributions to help those in need,” said Christy Resh, a co-coordinator of the UWAW committee.</p><p>“Our involvement in the United Way says Penske cares about its neighbors and our community, but most importantly, that we have amazing associates,” she said.</p><p>White thanked members of the UWAW committee for their yearlong commitment to the United Way.</p><p>“You embrace helping and giving back every month of the year,” White said of Penske’s UWAW committee. “I want to thank you for that.”</p><p><em>By Bernie Mixon</em></p></div>

Penske Receives United Way Award

The United Way of Berks County in Pennsylvania recently presented Penske its Presidential Award.
<p>Since 1991, the award has been given each year to United Way’s top 10 supporters. Penske has received the award each year since its inception.</p><p>In the 2016 campaign, Penske was the United Way of Berks County’s top fund raiser for the third year in a row. Penske and its associates contributed a total of $1,247,010 to United Way’s 2016 campaign— making this the second year in a row the company raised over $1 million.</p><p>“This award is a testament to the generosity and commitment of our associates,” said Mike Duff, Penske’s senior vice president – government relations and chief compliance officer, who co-chaired the 2011 United Way campaign with his wife Diane and is currently United Way of Berks County’s Board Chair. “They truly understand that we all benefit by giving a hand up to those folks in our community who need assistance. Our support helps United Way fund programs and services that will touch over 100,000 Berks residents this year.”</p><p>United Way campaign co-chairs Peter and Pam Barbey presented Penske President and CEO Brian Hard with the award at Penske’s headquarters in Reading, Pennsylvania. Both co-chairs were thankful for the impact Penske’s contributions made in 2016.</p><p>“We set a really high goal this year, and Penske was able to help us blow right past it,” said Pete Barbey. “That was made possible by a really great team of people at Penske.”</p><p>Overall, the 2016 United Way Campaign raised $10.2 million, an amount that exceeded the campaign’s goal by $200,000. <p>The <a href="http://www.uwberks.org/wwwpub/">United Way of Berks County</a> presented <a href="https://www.gopenske.com/find_a_truck/">Penske Truck Leasing</a> with its Presidential Award to honor the company for being the organization’s top fundraiser for the 2015 campaign.</p><p>United Way campaign co-chairs Brad and Barbara Hall presented the award to Penske’s President and CEO Brian Hard at the company’s headquarters in Reading, Pennsylvania. The United Way also honored Penske for reaching a unique milestone by becoming the first and only company to raise over $1 million.</p><p>In accepting the award, Hard shared his appreciation of the work the United Way does for the community.</p><p>Hard also gave thanks to the Penske associates who helped make the 2015 campaign such a resounding success.</p><p>“I’m humbled to hear about all the wonderful things our associates do in the community through the United Way,” said Hard. “Thank you to each of you for your leadership and volunteerism. You each play an important role in the success of the United Way in Berks County.”</p><p>The Halls echoed this appreciation and praised Penske and its associates for their effort and hard work each year.</p><p>“We’re really proud to work with Penske,” said Brad Hall. “The things that you do really and truly are appreciated by the community.”</p><p>Through the efforts of the United Way at Work Committee, Penske is able to support the United Way on a year-round basis. Their efforts helped contribute to the $9.81 million total raised by the United Way in 2015.</p><p>“Unless there is a combination of great leadership and great people, numbers like these are difficult to achieve,” said Barbara Hall. “I can’t thank Penske enough for funding the campaign in such an enjoyable and energetic way.”</p><p>As a company, Penske has been one of the United Way’s top ten supporters each year since the Presidential Award’s inception in 1991.</p><p><em>By Tony Kozuch</em></p></div>

TheUnited Way of Berks County presented a Presidential Award to Penske Truck Leasing, the top company fundraiser in the charitable organization’s 2014 fundraising campaign.
<p>Since 1991, the United Way has presented the award to the top 10 companies, based on employee and corporate giving to support the United Way’s annual campaign. Penske has been in the top 10 for the last 21 years.</p><p>During the award presentation, Tammy White, president of the United Way of Berks County, announced that Penske was the top company fundraiser and praised Penske for its year-round commitment to the organization.</p><p>“With your involvement on a year-round basis, you are a model for other companies,” White said, in presenting the award to Brian Hard, Penske’s president and CEO, and members of the United Way at Work Committee. “Please know you are a leader.”</p><p>Through the efforts of the committee, Penske supports the United Way year-round with fundraising events and volunteerism benefiting partner agencies.</p><p>“Our United Way at Work Committee keeps the United Way’s efforts and the efforts of its agency partners front and center in the minds of the associates at Penske,” Hard said.</p><p>Penske contributed $875,000 to the campaign, reflecting an overall increase of 15.3 percent in charitable donations to the organization.</p><p>Associate giving was up 9.5 percent to $547,339 from $499,669 in 2013. Since 2011, associates have donated more than $1.8 million to the charitable organization.</p><p>But more than donations, the United Way praised Penske’s overall commitment to the campaign.</p><p>“In addition to the very generous corporate contribution and employee campaign, Penske’s partnership is evidenced by annually providing two Loaned Campaign Specialists, and supporting year-round volunteerism and special events to benefit United Way and our agency partners” said Jean A. Morrow, senior vice president of development and major gifts, United Way of Berks County.</p><p>The United Way’s 2014 fundraising campaign raised $9.59 million.</p><p>Each year, the United Way of Berks County assists 100,000 county residents and supports 32 partner agencies while focusing on four areas: education, income, health and safety net services.</p><p><em>By Bernie Mixon</em></p></div>
