Penske Places 64th on 2010 InformationWeek 500 List

READING, Pa., Sept. 17, 2010 - Penske Truck Leasing has been recognized for its information technology excellence, earning entry on the 2010 InformationWeek 500 list, placing 64th overall. The winners were announced this week at the InformationWeek 500 Conference at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort, Dana Point, Calif. This is the 10th consecutive year that Penske has ranked in the Top 500, and its 4th time in the Top 100.

InformationWeek identifies and honors the nation's most innovative users of information technology with its annual 500 listing, and also tracks the technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America’s best-known companies. Additional details on the InformationWeek 500 can be found online at www.informationweek.com/iw500.

"We are very pleased to be recognized as an InformationWeek 500 recipient," said Bill Stobbart, Senior Vice President – Information Technology, Penske Truck Leasing. "The technology innovations that we have implemented over the years have provided us with a competitive advantage in the marketplace. The InformationWeek recognition would simply not be possible without the dedication of our IT associates globally, as they continually strive to excel each and every day."

One system that helped Penske gain entry on this year’s list is Cellcomm, a proprietary wireless application used for dispatching and tracking driver positions, and delivery status. The technology is utilized for Penske Logistics, which is a subsidiary of Penske Truck Leasing.

Utilizing GPS technology, over 1,700 CellCom equipped cellphones or PDAs can compile an array of information on over 25,000 monthly routes. Cellcomm's functionality has been greatly enhanced in the last year to include, among other features: order tacking, container tracking, image capture, and third-party carrier usage.

"For 22 years, the InformationWeek 500 has honored the most innovative users of business technology," said InformationWeek Editor-In-Chief Rob Preston. "As we start to emerge from the worst recession in decades, the IT focus is now on driving growth—new sources of revenue, new relationships with customers, even new business models. This year’s ranking placed special emphasis on those companies and business technology executives leading that charge."
