Cheri Himes, Vice President and Controller
With Penske Since 1989
I was hired as a mid-level accountant in 1989, and today I’m responsible for all the accounting for both Penske Truck Leasing and Penske Logistics. My job is challenging and rewarding and keeps me very busy. We work within Canada, Mexico, Brazil, China and parts of Europe. I travel a lot and deal with different currencies. I like that no two days are the same for me.
When you sit at a table with co-workers, and you say, “Introduce yourself and tell me how many years you have been with the company”, the answer isn’t two, three or five years. It’s 12, 20 or 25 years with the company. I think the longevity stems from the togetherness we experience here at Penske. For example, we have someone on our team whose child has some medical conditions. As a group, we’ve organized fundraisers, including a golf tournament, to help her child. Penske becomes a piece of who you are, not just a job you go to.
A lot of people are looking for a place where they can make a difference. Penske has an atmosphere and a culture that promotes that desire. In the time I’ve been here, there’s always been an unwritten rule that you can make a difference. You can make a contribution and add value in what you do. They allow you creativity. Penske is about creating value for our customers.
